Reclaiming Advertising Spaces
Project date :
Mar - Apr 2021
Statement :
Advertising isn’t an inherently bad action, but when done on a large scale, it can cause harm. Outdoor visual advertising is one of the few types of advertising that cannot be opted out of, meaning that individuals have no control over the content they are exposed to. Although these ads only occupy a small portion of public visual space, they are often repeated across various locations on a commuter's daily route, leading to prolonged exposure. The 'Reclaiming Advertising Spaces' project aimed to address the potentially harmful relationship between product advertising and commuters. The project removed two bus stop advertisements and replaced them with an image of the shelter's interior, effectively eliminating the advertisement
